The Ning Zheng Ensemble was officially established in January 2022, consisting of students of Miss Wang Yining, a young Hong Kong guzheng performer and teacher. The ensemble includes university music majors and graduates specializing in guzheng, winners of the Chinese Instrument Scholarship Competition on Hong Kong's Fourth Station, and gold medalists in the Advanced Group of the Inter-school Music Festival, among others. Together, they explore the unique expressiveness of the guzheng ensemble.
Since its establishment, the ensemble has received support and guidance from veteran musicians in the industry. They have accumulated a repertoire of excellent guzheng ensemble pieces composed in recent years, including commissioned works by up-and-coming Hong Kong composers. These contemporary pieces offer distinctively different approaches to musicality, structure, and expressiveness compared to traditional works, reflecting the aesthetic of the new era and hinting at future directions. The ensemble has held well-received dedicated concerts in Hong Kong and has also achieved gold awards in multiple international professional guzheng competitions. Along with the boost in confidence, they feel a sense of responsibility to contribute their part to the dissemination of guzheng music.
In this concert, the Ning Zheng Ensemble will join forces with the Lok Sing Zhong Ensemble to perform classic guzheng concerto pieces 'Yun Shang Sue' and 'Linan Regrets', as well as popular anime and movie inserts from 'Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba' and 'A Lifetime of Love'. The program will also feature other guzheng solo and ensemble pieces, promising a vibrant auditory and visual feast for the audience.
